What is Pilates?
The Pilates method is an established and personalized system of exercise drawing on both Eastern and Western traditions, designed to unite the body and mind through stretching, strengthening and toning.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Improving concentration and mental focus.
- Learning how to relax and the importance of correct breath control.
- Positioning.
- Understanding how energy/power radiates from “the core” (central region of body) to the outer limbs.
- Using muscles in a controlled manner resulting in efficient, coordinated and flowing precision of movement.
Pilates has a basic core set of 34 exercises that can be developed to include more than 500 variations.
Pilates helps build a leaner, more sculptured body without attaining bulky muscles that are more prone to succumb to injury and turn flabby and unsightly later in life.
